Hightower Key Players and Storylines

It’ll be a year of change for Hightower, but the Hurricanes are ready to take it head-on. Not only is their offensive coordinator from last year now a head coach at Spring, but the Hurricanes will also be implementing a new defensive scheme this season. On top of that, they’ll also have a new starting quarterback. 

Fortunately for the Hurricanes, there’s plenty of starting experience across their roster. They’ve got some mammoths in the trenches in 6’3”, 310-pound left tackle Christopher Coleman and 6’1”, 310-pound guard Koleman Jones. The passing game will also have some pop with explosive wide receiver Kentrell Mosley (401 receiving yards and six touchdowns) and Lee Reeves (314 receiving yards and two touchdowns), who’s expected to take on a bigger role this year with his “dependable hands.”

Defensively, linebacker Champ Anthony (75 tackles, 12 TFLs) is poised to be the star of the show after leading the Hurricanes in tackles and tackles for loss in 2025. He’s far from the only playmaker. Cornerback Zion Newton (15 tackles, three INTs) was a first team all-district selection last year, while 6’3”, 285-pound defensive tackle Christopher Carroll (34 tackles, 10 TFLs) is a back-to-back all-district lineman.

Defensive back/receiver Dailon Denkins (15 tackles, one INT), a standout high jumper in track, will make an impact on both sides of the ball.

Head coach Cornelius Anthony believes the experience the Hurricanes have returning will help them persevere through adversity. They’ll hope that toughness will lead to at least one playoff victory this fall after back-to-back first round exits.
