Responding To Bob McNair’s Comments

The big story surrounding this game took place off the field. After owner Bob McNair came under scrutiny for his comments that “we can’t have the inmates running the prison” during an owner’s meeting last week, the team responded by taking a knee and sitting prior to the national anthem of Sunday’s game.

Other than Duane Brown, very few Texans have publicly commented on their reaction to McNair’s comments. In fact, several skipped Friday’s practice as a protest to the comments. This issue isn’t going to be going away anytime soon and it will be interesting to see how this is handled by the team moving forward.

Magic From Deshaun Watson And Offense

It seems like ages ago that Tom Savage was taking the first snap in the season opening game for the Texans. What a difference a few weeks make.

Deshaun Watson was simply outstanding against one of the NFL’s best defenses, carving up the Legion of Boom for 402 yards and four touchdowns; 349 of those yards going between DeAndre Hopkins (224, TD) and Will Fuller (125, 2 TD) He also made plays with his legs, rushing for 67 yards.

It wasn’t all roses for Watson, as he threw three interceptions and sacked five times as well but with the effort the rookie put forward, it should have been enough.
Unfortunately for Houston, it simply wasn’t.

Defense Couldn’t Make A Stop

On the other side of the ball, the Texans defense simply had no answer for Russell Wilson, who finished with 452 yards and four touchdown passes of his own. It was a wild game but whether it was fatigue or just lack of execution, the defense simply couldn’t find a way to get that one final stop to secure the win.

The defense had been giving up almost 25 points a game and with the injuries up front and the struggles in the secondary, they’ll have to come up with a solution if they want to find a way to get the AFC South divisional title.

Oh, What Could Have Been…

The Texans are now 3-4 this season, but could just as easily see themselves at 5-2 if they find ways to close out games at Seattle and at New England earlier this season. After another close loss, the Texans will have to find a way to bounce back.

They’ll get a good opportunity on Sunday when they face off against the Indianapolis Colts.
