The Wolfforth Frenship Tigers clinched a share of the District 2-6A title with a powerful 44-27 victory over the Permian Panthers on Friday night at Ratliff Stadium. Frenship improved to 8-1 overall and remained unbeaten in district play, while Permian dropped to 7-2 and faced back-to-back district losses for the first time since 2016.
Frenship set the tone early, scoring on their first drive and quickly building a lead with two consecutive touchdown passes to Leyton Stone. The Tigers capitalized on an onside kick and extended their advantage, making it difficult for Permian to keep up. Stone was a key offensive player, recording three touchdowns, while quarterback Holden Phillips threw for four touchdowns and 341 yards on an efficient 27-of-34 passing.
Permian’s running back Gavin Black was the standout for the Panthers, rushing for 235 yards and scoring all four of their touchdowns. Despite Black’s efforts, Permian’s passing game struggled, with quarterback Jacob Garcia completing only 11 of 28 passes and throwing three interceptions. Permian managed to close the gap several times, but Frenship’s well-executed offense and timely defensive plays kept the game in their favor.
In the second half, Frenship maintained control, responding to each of Permian’s scores and shutting down their momentum with a blocked PAT returned for two points. The Tigers’ final touchdown came on a short-yardage run by Ethan DeLean, sealing the game and further cementing Frenship’s place at the top of the district standings. Frenship will close out their season against San Angelo Central, while Permian prepares to face Midland High.
