Frisco Heritage and Frisco Wakeland both came into Thursday night’s game at the Star fairly even.  Both teams were 1-1 in non-district and both teams still have question marks on both sides of the ball.  The Coyotes answered enough questions to eek out a 19-13 win over the Wolverines to take them to 1-0 in district.

The game got off to a slow start as neither team could find the end zone in the first quarter.  Heritage was able to make the first big play of the game as Kameron Franklin picked off a Brennan Myer pass and took it 54 yards to the house for a 7-0 Heritage lead.

The Wolverines finally got some offense going after that, as Myer led them down the field on a 65-yard drive, culminating in a touchdown pass to Donavan Woolen.  The teams went to halftime tied at 7.

The second half was more of the same for Wakeland as they were never able to find a rhythm on offense.  Heritage went on a long drive late in the third quarter, that ended with a touchdown pass from Devan Calvin to Tatum Bell.  The PAT was blocked, and Heritage took a 13-7 lead into the 4th.

Wakeland’s next drive proved the backbreaker as Heritage forced a fumble and then scored three plays later on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Calvin to Jaxon Miller and a 19-6 lead.  Wakeland was able to put one more touchdown on the board, but late in the fourth quarter, Heritage was able to collect some first downs and run out the clock.

The Coyotes saw a great night from quarterback Calvin.  The senior threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns.  Miller finished with 98 yards and the big touchdown.

The Coyotes (2-1, 1-0) look to keep the momentum going against Frisco Liberty next Friday.  Meanwhile, Wakeland (1-2, 0-1) will attempt to regroup against a good Frisco Reedy team next week.
