Frisco Lone Star Wins 8th Straight Over Frisco Wakeland
The annual Battle for the El Dorado Whataburger took place in Frisco Friday night, and it was a one-sided affair as Frisco Lone Star beat Frisco Wakeland 33-3 at Toyota Stadium.
Lone Star Wins 8th Straight vs Wakeland
The Wakeland defense came out strong in the first quarter. After forcing punts on the first two Lone Star series, Wakeland took a big chance on offense. With a 4th and 2 at their own 37, the Wolverines went for it, and senior running back Jared White was only able to pick up a yard.
The Rangers took over at the Wolverine 38, and six plays later, they were in the end zone. The five-yard TD run by senior Ashton Jeanty, a Boise State commit, was his first of four on the night.
The Wakeland offense followed with their best drive of the night. Behind the running of White, the Wolverines had a first and goal at the Ranger’s six. But QB Brennan Myer was intercepted in the end zone by Northwestern commit Devin Turner, killing the drive.
Later in the second quarter, Ranger QB, and Oklahoma State commit, Garrett Rangel hit Turner on a 13-yard touchdown pass. The Rangers took a 13-0 lead into halftime.
Lone Star Scoring Barrage in the 2nd Half
The second half was more of the same. Midway through the third quarter, Rangle drove the Rangers 68 yards, capped off by a 4 yard TD by Jeanty.
The only scoring of the night for Wakeland was a field goal in the third quarter off the foot of Nolan Krinsky.
Jeanty scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, leading to the eventual 33-3 final. Jeanty finished the night with 173 yards and 4 touchdowns. Jeanty now has 32 touchdowns on the season.
The win takes Lone Star to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the district. The Rangers have to play Frisco Centennial and The Colony the next two weeks, and then will prepare for what will likely be the District championship game against Denton Ryan in three weeks.
The Wolverines (5-2, 4-2) have a big game with Frisco Reedy next week that will determine playoff seeding.
