Frisco Reedy Get’s Huge District Win over #3 Frisco Lone Star
We conducted a poll for the fan-vote-week-2-player-of-the-week-poll The nominee
The Lions of Frisco Reedy pulled off a big upset Friday night against the Lone Star Rangers, 13-7 at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco. Both teams came into the game 2-0, but Lone Star had the more impressive resume. The Lions proved they were more than worthy.
The game was a defensive juggernaut as neither team scored in the second half. Lone Star was down to their third-string quarterback, and despite a valiant effort from Texas A and M baseball commit, Bennett Fryman, they couldn’t pull it out.
Neither team could get much going offensively in the first half. Reedy was able to get a field goal after some nice running from Dennis Moody. Reedy kicked another field goal early in the second quarter for a 6-0 lead.
Lone Star did answer in the second quarter. After a long pass to Chris Viveros to get into the red zone, Fryman was able to find Viveros for an eight-yard touchdown and Lone Star took a 7-6 lead.
The last seconds of the second quarter proved to be the difference. After stalling a midfield, Reedy had a fourth and one at the Lone Star 45. Rather than punting, the Lions brought in their heavy package. Linebacker Kahlil Smith broke free for a 43-yard gain. On the next play, Moody was in at quarterback and hit Tulane commit Joshua Goines on a jump pass. That was all the offense Reedy needed.
Lone Star made it interesting, driving down inside the red zone with 15 seconds left, but defensive back Chase Caesar came up strong with a breakup on 4th down.
Lone Star now gets a week to rest up and hopefully get a QB back with a bye week. Reedy will take on Frisco Wakeland next Friday at the Star. Reedy looks to keep control of the district, while Wakeland is in a must-win scenario.
