FRISCO WAKELAND DOMINATES IN 55-7 WIN OVER JJ PEARCE

Wakeland beats Frisco Heritage

Their first game was canceled due to Covid. But, the Wakeland Wolverines showed they were ready to get their season going and dominates the JJ Pearce Mustangs 55-7 at Eagle-Mustang Stadium in Richardson on Friday night. Pearce was coming off a 47-17 loss to Frisco Independence in week 1.

Both teams traded touchdowns to start the game, and Pearce briefly led 7-6. Pearce looked to extend their lead in the first quarter, but their drive was snuffed out by free safety Noah Mangum’s interception in the end zone.

Domination

Wakeland took control and never looked back. Quarterback Brennan Myer threw a touchdown pass to Davion Woolen, and the Wolverines went up 13-7. The Wolverine defense was on fire after that, forcing two Pearce turnovers and three punts to end the first half. The Wolverines went into halftime with a 34-7 lead.

The second half was a lot of the same. The Wolverine offense scored three more times and the relentless defense didn’t let up. The highlight was a 44-yard touchdown pass from Myer to big Tight End Tripp Riordan. Riordan currently holds an offer from Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones.

Running back Jared White led the rushing attack for the Wolverines. The senior ran for 189 yards and three touchdowns. Myer passed for three touchdowns and spread the ball around as eight different receivers caught passes for the Wolverines.

Senior Safety/Receiver Woolen (6-2, 185) had a nice game, as he scored touchdowns on both offense and defense. The dual-threat star currently holds several offers, including Air Force and the Black Knights of Army. Linebackers Alex Shirley and Michael Flanagan also played well for the Wolverine defense.

The Wakeland Wolverines (1-0) are quickly back at it, as they open district play Thursday night against Frisco Centennial Titans (0-2) at the Ford Center in Frisco. Pearce travels to McKinney Thursday to take on the McKinney Boyd Broncos. Pearce is now 0-2 on the season.
