2020 WAKELAND WOLVERINES SEASON RECAP

2020 was an interesting year for the Wakeland Wolverines.  After getting off to a 4-0 start, the wolverines went 2-4 down the stretch.  Finishing 6-4 and assuming no playoffs, they got some help the last week of the season from district rival the colony, who knocked off Frisco Reedy causing a three-way tie in the district.  After a late night coinflip, the Wolverines got the fourth spot in the district, and got to take on Lancaster in a bi-district game.  They lost to the state ranked Tigers29-6 , finishing the season at 6-5.

2020 was definitely an up and down season for the Wolverines.  The 4-0 start included impressive wins over 6a Richardson Pearce and The Colony.  The Wolverines ran into a buzzsaw week 5, losing 41-3 to state champion Denton Ryan.  The team took care of business against Frisco Heritage and Denton, but lost to district rivals Frisco Independence, Frisco Reedy and state ranked Frisco Lone Star.

2021 WAKELAND WOLVERINES PREVIEW

The strength of the Wolverines offense last season was the running game, and senior running back Jared White (5’9, 215) is back.  White has played on varsity all four years and finished last season with 1,158 yards and 16 touchdowns.  The offensive line will have some new starters, but is anchored by returning starter, senior center Cade Myer (6’, 240).  The Wolverines will break in a new quarterback this season, and it’s going to be a three man race.  Expect them to not name a starter until practice starts in august.

Key 2021 games include at Denton Ryan, at Frisco Reedy and vs Frisco lone star

2021 WAKELAND WOLVERINE PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

The Wolverine defense will be anchored by senior safety Davion Woolen (6’3, 185, 4.4).  Woolen was having an impressive season in 2020 (32 tackles, 3 int’s, 1 kick return td) before it was cut short by a clavicle injury.  He currently holds offers from Air Force, Army and Illinois State.
