The game between S&S Consolidated Independent School District (2-0) and Alvord High School (0-2) has been canceled.
S&S released this statement:
“Because of recent COVID issues, our varsity football team is faced without having its entire roster, making it very difficult to field a team this Friday night,” said Alvord Bulldogs Athletic Director Scott Smiley in a Wednesday morning Facebook post. “So, to protect the safety and health of our team, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our varsity game against S&S.”
A member of the Alvord football team tested positive for the coronavirus. The team is currently under quarantine. There are no reports of any player experiencing any severe effects from the virus.
While this is a temporary setback for S&S and Alvord, the vast majority of scheduled football games across Texas have been played as scheduled without any issue.
