Grape Creek Gets Third Win and First District Win

Eric Watson - CBS Insurance LLP - A Gallagher Company

Grape Creek entered their first District 4-3A game of the season on Friday at 2-4, coming off a big 74-0 win over San Angelo TLC Academy. Coahoma entered the game at 3-2, coming off an exciting 71-70 win over Littlefield.

The Bulldogs of Coahoma had the early momentum in the game, but Grape Creek battled hard and took control late in the game. Sire Garcia was unstoppable, scoring three touchdowns, including a 5-yard reception and two rushing TDs, while also adding two two-point conversions.

The turning point came late in the third quarter when Kollin Votaw’s 8-yard touchdown run gave Grape Creek a 28-20 lead. A key fumble recovery by the defense allowed Jesse Torres to seal the game with an 8-yard touchdown run.

Grape Creek’s defense tightened up in the final quarter, securing the victory 34-20. It was a statement win for the Eagles, who kicked off their district play on a high note. Grape Creek will face Standon next, looking to improve to 2-0 in district play. The now 4-2 Coahoma Bulldogs will look to rebound against the Wall Hawks. Wall is 6-1 and is tied at the top of District 4-3A with Grape Creek.
