North Crowley senior running back G’yrell “Rell” Smith has become one of the most explosive playmakers in Texas High School football.
The North Texas commit has helped the Panthers open the season 7-0 while producing big performances against some of the state’s strongest programs. Smith rushed for three touchdowns against Duncanville, four against Southlake Carroll and three more in North Crowley’s 42-17 win over previously unbeaten Waxahachie.
On the Texas HS Football Podcast, Smith talks with host Taylor Arenz about his development, leadership and recruiting journey. He also explains why staying patient became one of the biggest lessons he learned before earning his college opportunities.
Now a senior, Smith has embraced a larger leadership role. He focuses on accountability, helping younger players and making sure his teammates understand their assignments.
North Crowley enters the final stretch of the regular season with championship expectations. For Smith, the goal is simple: finish his high school career strong, help the Panthers make another deep postseason run and eventually take his game to North Texas.
