A little more than a week after de-committing from Baylor, Hempstead athlete Delarrin Turner-Yell has decided to head north of the Red River and gave his verbal commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday.

The senior safety becomes Commit No. 18 for head coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners and the eighth commit from Texas.
Turner-Yell also had offers Houston, Nebraska and Utah among others. He put up some impressive numbers on defense in 2016, finishing with 87 tackles, seven pass break-ups, four forced fumbles and two interceptions and earned the District 12-3A-I Defensive MVP in 2016.
The Hempstead star is known as a big hitter and will be a focal point for the Bobcats defense this season. Hempstead is scheduled to open their season on September 1 at East Bernard.
