Hippos Quarterback Will Hammond Has Himself A Game

Roof Replacement from Austin Commercial Roofers

A stat-stuffing night for the Hutto Hippos was all for naught in Liberty Hill.

Similar to quarterback Patrick Mahomes giving his best effort in Texas Tech defeats, Hippos quarterback Will Hammond (coincidentally, also a Red Raiders commit), put up insane numbers last Friday, completing 36 of 58 passes for 719 yards (!!!) and four touchdowns, plus scrambling for another 88 yards and six (!!!) touchdowns.

The effort didn’t go unnoticed; Mahomes himself posted this on his X feed:

Despite Hammond’s standout performance, Hutton fell to the Panthers in a game of no defense, falling by 82-80.

Liberty Hill went to work behind the running back duo of Ben Carter and Noah Long’s combined 679 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns. Carter finished with 23 carries for 368 yards and five touchdowns; Long added another 311 yards on 17 carries for a grand total of 753 yards on the ground.

It’s not the first time both squads showcased a high-scoring contest; both teams combined for 113 points last December.

Hammond is coming of a junior season in which he threw 30 touchdown passes and rushed for nine more scores.

Although one of the most popular teams in the Lone Star State, especially because of the abundance of Hippo statues scattered throughout the city, the team hasn’t won a state title.
