Let’s talk about these two excellent young running backs for a little bit.

On Calallen’s side, you have Alec Brown, a sophomore who runs like every single other Calallen player – hard. He isn’t just a runner either, he threw many key blocks for quarterback Gaige Lamb on his many runs as well. This is a young kid who’s going to terrorize the Corpus Christi area for two more years.

For Aledo, you have Jase McClellan, who pulled off the closest thing to the Marshawn Lynch “Beastmode” run I’ve seen in a long time. This kid is a freshman. He’s 14. If you’re looking for running backs of the future, look no further than the tape of this game, because these two are going to be very good.

Aledo’s DTs are impressive as well.

It’s rare to have one true run stuffer in high school ball. It’s significantly more rare to have two. In James Williams, who is only a junior and will return for Aledo, and Wes Harris, Aledo has a pair of run stuffers that have been far above average this year. They were instrumental in Aledo’s efforts to stop Gaige Lamb and company.

Calallen’s secondary had a bead on Dillon Davis the whole night, but it didn’t really matter.

Davis threw an absolute dart to Logan Bridges, but outside of that he was held in check by a Calallen secondary that had a great game. John Gaddis was instrumental in these efforts, whether he was in the flats or over the top.

Aledo had a dominant offense. Calallen definitely held them in check.

At some point, speed and talent win out.

Calallen had a fantastic gameplan. They had some athletes, guys like John Gaddis, Gaige Lamb, Heath Thomas, and Brandon Broughton. In the end, the edge speed of Aledo pushed them over the top. They were able to plug holes with their DTs and let their linebacking corps mop up the rest. What a fantastic game by both sides.
