DeSoto’s option game was dangerous, but that QB trap play is borderline unstoppable.

When DeSoto pulls that guard and that H-Back and Shawn Robinson hits that hole, oh man do they hit hard. The quarterback was insanely good from the beginning on those plays, and before he got hurt he was dominant on the ground. Those plays specifically were extremely hard for that tough Steele defense to slow, but they eventually figured it out.

Shawn Robinson is nothing short of amazing.

Let’s speak in truths here. It’s very easy for us to say that the 6A quarterback is better than the 4A quarterback, even when sometimes it isn’t true. The 4A quarterback plays against lesser competition. The 6A quarterback plays on the bigger stage.

There is nothing about Shawn Robinson that is hype. In the immortal words of James “Boobie” Miles, or at least Derek Luke’s portrayal of him in Friday Night Lights, the hype is something that’s not for real.

Shawn Robinson is all real. Full stop.

Before he was injured, he was a dominant force on the ground and in the air, routinely carving up a good Knights defense, just as he’s done all year. There’s nothing about him that was fake tonight. He’s a baller. Full stop.

On the Steele side, I can’t say enough about Brenden Brady.

Xavier Martin got most of the headlines for Steele this year, and deservedly so. He’s a great talent, and will be really good for Texas Tech in the future.

However, the man of the night for the black, white, and silver was Brady, who ran over or around DeSoto all night. He also made the play of the game, bailing Martin out with a tiptoeing catch on the sideline to bring Steele back in the game. He played a grown man’s game tonight.

This DeSoto team is the definition of inevitable.

All season long, it seemed like everything was leading to this for DeSoto. The pummeling of talented teams. The two wins over rival Cedar Hill. The escape from a small but determined Abilene team. The defensive touchdowns to lift them over Klein Collins.

Don’t call it lucky. This isn’t a team with talent that fluked its way to a 16-0 record. They’re a talented, disciplined, unified team that’s easily one of the best to come out of DFW in a while. They were the best team in this division, and possibly in this classification, all year long.
