One of two players suspended after an attack on an official in 2015 will be allowed to play football again. In a 5-0 decision, the UIL ruled that San Antonio John Jay junior Victor Rojas will be allowed to return to athletic competition beginning during the 2017-18 school year.

Rojas, along with Michael Moreno, were suspended in 2015 after tackling umpire Robert Watts in a game against Marble Falls. Moreno was a senior at the time of and has since graduated. Assistant coach Mack Breed resigned after the incident and Jay head coach Gary Gutierrez was placed on two years’ probation as well.

According to Adam Zuvanich of the San Antonio Express-News, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) also ruled that Rojas will remain on probation through the 2017-18 school year and the UIL also said that the decision as to when Rojas can return to the athletic program and train would be determined by the school and the Northside Independent School District.

Per Zuvanich, Northside ISD athletic director Stan Laing says he has not determined if Rojas would come back to the athletic program this spring.
