The Seven Lakes Spartans have never beaten the Katy Tigers, and it wouldn’t even be close to happening tonight. The Tigers had built a 35-0 lead at the end of the first quarter that was built on both impressive offense and defense.

Deondrick Glass made quick work of the Spartans and was done with 8:45 left in the second quarter after going untouched on a 82-yard touchdown run to put the Tigers up 42-0. The Tigers finished the half up 49-0. Glass finished with 246 yards and three touchdowns in just a quarter and some change worth of work. The Tigers outgained the Spartans 390 to 53 total yards in the first half. The Tigers ended up winning 52-7, but everyone in attendance knew this one was over long before that.

The Tigers seem to be building up to where they wanted to be. Every young team has their growing pains, and this team sure went through theirs at the beginning of the season. This team was a point away from starting the season 0-3. This young team has grown and the results on both sides of the ball are showing that.

Playing such a tough non-district schedule can work one of two ways; the team can either sink or swim. This young Tigers team took their lumps early on, and while the Tigers need a little more experience, this team seems to have learned from their early season struggles.

Katy should cruise through the rest of the district and early on it seemed like a deep playoff run would be a tough ask. With the growth, continuity and experience the Tigers looked to be primed for another deep run.

This team looks a lot like the ‘08 state championship winning team. The team depends on on their running game with one big receiver they can go to. In ‘08 it was Will Jeffery and Taylor Brandt, now it is Deondrick Glass and JC Angulo. History likes to repeat itself, and the Tigers are hoping it does once again.
