Katy edges The Woodlands 21-14
The Woodlands Highlanders (2-1) made the trip to Rhodes Stadium to take on the Katy Tigers (3-0) on an electric Thursday night.
The Tigers looked to keep their season perfect after a scare last week against Dickinson where they pulled off a 28-21 win, whereas the Highlanders look to bounce back from their previous 39-35 defeat against Bridgeland.
1st Half
These two powerhouses started off the game strong. On their opening possession, The Highlanders took the ball down the field, converting on three third downs and scoring with QB Mabrey Mettauer finding his WR Ben Ferguson for the 18-yard touchdown.

The Tigers returned the favor on their first drive. Jr RB Seth Davis showcased his skills, and took the Tigers down the field in no time, capping off the drive with a six-yard touchdown run to tie the game.
After the first two scores, both teams’ defenses seemed to settle in. Both teams made impressive stops throughout the rest of the half.
The game looked like both teams would be tied at the end of the 2nd quarter, until the Highlander’s Mettauer was picked off at midfield by Jr DB Brady Englett for the Tigers, and the very next play Davis hit paydirt running it in for the 49-yard touchdown. Katy led 14-7 going into the locker room.
2nd Half
The 3rd quarter would continue to be all defense for both teams. For the Tigers, their defensive line did a great job of slowing down the Highlander’s running game, containing JoBarre Reed’s ability to pick up yards.
Early in the 4th, Katy QB Caleb Koger found WR Isaiah Smith for 21 yards extending the Tiger’s lead to 21-7. The Woodlands would answer on their next possession, with Mattauer sneaking from 2 yards to make it a one-score game at 21-14.
Katy got the ball back and, using Seth Davis’s running game to eat up the clock. The Tigers gave the ball back to the Highlanders with just over a minute to go. The Tigers’ defense proved too much for them, as they would turn the ball over on downs, allowing Katy to ice the game.
Player of the Game
Seth Davis was named the Player of the Game after rushing for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Final score: Katy 21 – The Woodlands 14
Katy takes on Seven Lakes next week to start off district play. The Woodlands will take on Aguilas MX Prep/Mexico City at Wood Forest Stadium next Thursday.
