The long weekend has proven to be very good recruiting wise for Major Applewhite and the Houston Cougars. On Monday night, Katy Taylor defensive back Ben Montgomery announced his commitment to his hometown school of Houston.

On Sunday, the Cougars had picked up a commitment from Mart linebacker Zamar Kirven for the Class of 2018. Montgomery becomes the first commit in the Class of 2019 for Houston.
Montgomery started to come into his own last season as a sophomore, finishing with 89 tackles and a forced fumble. He was also was named to the Academic All-District team in 2016.
He returns as part of a talented Mustang defense that includes defensive end and top recruit Max Wright. They’ll be part of a Katy Taylor squad that will try to build off of a good 2016 season that saw them go 9-3 overall and advance to the area round of the playoffs.
