Tompkins Key Players and Storylines

It was a weird feeling for Tompkins in 2025 as the Falcons were stuck at home watching the playoffs for the first time since 2017. They were left wondering what might have been after three of their four district losses came by 11 points or fewer.

Expect the Falcons to be on a mission this year to get back into the top four of District 22-6A. An experienced backfield should help Tompkins continue lighting up the scoreboard. Quarterback JP Vaclavik (2,053 passing yards and 21 touchdowns) led the district in passing yards last year, while running back Ethan Meadows (1,124 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns) has put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Mammoth 6’1″, 320-pound guard Phoenix Smith should help anchor the interior of the offensive line after earning second team all-district honors in 2025.

Defensively, Tompkins’ secondary should be able to cause opposing quarterbacks problems. Four-star Michigan commit cornerback Blake Jenkins (26 tackles, two INTs) can go man-to-man with any receiver in the district. He’s the lone returning all-district defender from last season, but it’s far from a one-man band. Look for safety Zachary Jury to be a reliable tackler alongside him in the secondary, while junior Clayton Toliver (30 tackles, one INT) is another playmaker at cornerback.

Last year was a season of close calls for the Falcons. They’ll look for their playmakers to step up and turn those close losses into wins as they chase an immediate return to the playoffs in 2026.
