He suffered a broken fibula. A torn ACL. A torn meniscus. A torn Achilles. A torn hamstring. A torn LCL.
And yet, Houston’s own JK Dobbins never gave up.
An early contender for NFL Comeback Player of the Year, Dobbins helped the Los Angeles Chargers weather a second-half comeback attempt by the Cincinnati Bengals, running to the crib for the game winning score at SoFi Stadium on “Sunday Night Football.” The fourth-year halfback registered 11 carries for 56 yards and two scores, including the critical rush to the end zone from 29 yards out.

Constantly hobbled by injuries, he wasn’t expected to do much with his one-year deal on the Chargers; Dobbins played in a mere nine total games between 2021 and 2023. Yet, the gamble by coach Harbaugh paid off–Dobbins is the first running back to come back from an Achilles tear and be incredibly effective in his first year back. He’s made the most of his time, registering 726 yards and eight scores on 4.8 yards per attempt. Dobbins currently ranks top 10 in rushing yards and touchdowns.
As a Texas high school football alumni, Dobbins played for La Grange. Throughout his high school career, he had 5,149 yards and 74 touchdowns, with the brunt of his stats coming from his sophomore and junior campaigns. After breaking a bone in his right leg, he was limited to competing in one game during his senior year. Despite the injury, Dobbins was still a heavily scouted prospect, fielding 20 scholarship offers before committing to Ohio State. He graduated with two state playoff appearances, approximately two decades after his late father competed on La Grange’s 1997 state semifinal team.
