Lake Highlands Key Players and Storylines
If anything, Lake Highlands has been consistent under head coach Cory Campbell. The Wildcats have finished 9-3 in all three seasons of his reign.
This year, they’ll need to do some re-tooling if they’re to reach similar heights. 44 seniors graduated off of last year’s team. Defensively, they have a strong core they can build around at linebacker with star junior Israel Samuel and senior Chris Theriot (92 tackles, 10 TFLs), the reigning District 7-6A Defensive MVP. Behind them, physical safety Holden Layne, a two-year starter, will provide vital experience on the back end.
Offensively, the Wildcats have the skill talent to create some fireworks. Boston College commit running back/receiver Franklon Evans Jr. is a lightning bolt with the ball in his hands. He scored 18 touchdowns a year ago. On the perimeter, 6’4” senior Conrad Ince will be the Wildcats’ big target, while 6’2” senior Mason Spangler (518 receiving yards and six touchdowns) is another returning starter.

The reliability of all three will be big on a unit that has to replace a 3,100-yard passer at quarterback.
Among the players Lake Highlands does have returning, there is plenty of talent. If the Wildcats can fill in the gaps, they’ll have their sights set on a district title after coming up short to Richardson in overtime in the deciding game a year ago.
