The Lake Travis Cavaliers are one of the best teams in the state, so many already expected them to be in Dallas. The Cavs had a great year looking to get back to finish what they were so close to doing last year, and win it all. Last year Lake Travis was just another opponent that wasn’t going to stop the “Katy Train” that was full steam ahead on a nonstop route to winning the championship.
The Cavs were close to falling to 0-2 to start their season against two very good San Antonio teams. Lake Travis lost their season opener to Converse Judson 35-28 in a game that they blew in the fourth quarter. The following week they needed overtime to beat Cibolo Steele 59-56 that very easily could’ve been a loss as both teams had a lead and battled the whole game. After those two close games the Cavs dominated District 25-6A, which most people expected.
Lake Travis opens the playoffs with another San Antonio team, but the Madison Mavericks aren’t quite the same caliber as Judson and Steele. The Mavericks made the playoffs with a losing record sitting at 4-6, and having a point differential of just 15. Now teams being able to make the playoffs with a losing overall and district record is just baffling, but that argument is for another time. The Cavs shouldn’t have a problem with the Mavs. In the Area Round they will take on the winner of Warren and Smithson Valley. Warren is .500 with Smithson Valley at 7-2 with neither team winning their district. The earliest Lake Travis could face a district champion is in the regional final, two games away from returning to the state title game.
The Cavaliers are a well experienced team led by SMU committed seniors Charlie and Cade Brewer as well as Wisconsin commit Cade Green, the Cavs know how to get to the big game and it doesn’t look like they will have much in their way to get there. The regional final could setup a rematch with either Austin Westlake, a team Lake Travis has beat nine consecutive times or Converse Judson, the team that handed the Cavs their only “L” of the season. No matter who they face they should be the favorites, and only have one maybe two real tests to get back to the title game.
Just a FYI- Charlie and Cade Brewer are not related.
Fixed. Thank you.
