At Reeves Athletic Complex, Lake Travis Cavaliers and the Westlake Chaparrals, two bitter rivals, geared up for a rematch in the 6A Division 1, Region IV Final.

Earlier in the district season, the Cavaliers, continuing their 9-year win streak, put a number on the Chaparrals, beating their long-time competitor 49-7. Lake Travis (12-1) displayed their knack for winning week by week and has shown no signs of slowing down. Quarterback Charlie Brewer, with 3045 passing yards under his belt, exhibits accuracy that is hard to beat. Offensive players Maleek barkley (1167 rushing yards), Cade Green (749 receiving yards), and Cade Brewer (659 receiving yards)  make up a compilation of skilled athletes that play a crucial role in making sure Lake Travis’s winning streak continues. In addition, defensive players Mateo Lopez, Austin Hiller, and William Lisenby are just a few of LT’s key weapons that have served as a backbone for this powerhouse of a team.

Last night’s game held a new challenge for the Cavs. Nakia Watson, their 1,400-yard rusher was back and better than ever. Despite this victory, Westlake would struggle without UT commit Sam Ehlinger.

True to their routine, Lake Travis started off strong with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Cade Green. Defenders Reid Bacon, Austin Hiller, and TJ Simien together showcased their wicked ability to shut down their opponent as they stopped the offense with magnificent strength. Charlie Brewer held up his end as well, completing a touchdown pass to Carson Pepe and putting 13 points up on the board. Nationally ranked kicker Cameron Dicker finished the first quarter with a successful 34-yard field goal.

Westlake quarterback Sam Saxton, seeing that Lake Travis’s momentum is only picking up, saw the need to step it up and completed two passes to wide receivers Jake Ramos and Andrew Boykin. Lake Travis’s retaliation stopped the Chaps drive, with tackles by intimidating LT defenders, Aidan Estrada, Michael Mast, and Matt Lopez. Westlake defense then begins to slightly pick up, as a pass to Wilson gets blocked and linebacker, Levi Jones sacks Brewer. Despite this, Lake Travis defense responds with force, quickly putting the ball back in their possession. With outstanding execution, Brewer runs the ball in for a touchdown. Upon Westlake’s possession, Lake Travis safety Michael Mast intercepted Saxton’s pass for another LT touchdown. After a completed past to a WL receiver, Andrew Boykin, and a Lake Travis interception by LT defender, Aidan Estrada, the Cavs and the Chaps being the half 0-30.

In the 3rd, Lake Travis continues to drive the ball to the end zone. Charlie Brewer completes 17 yard pass to Cade Brewer for a TD. Westlake begins to move into Lake Travis territory as they work to put points up on the board. Avoiding the shutout, the Chaps kicked a 35 yard field goal. Lake Travis offensive player, Patrick Moorer, then runs the ball 21 yards for a touchdown. After a successful PAT by Dicker, WL drives the ball 25 yards in an attempt to score.
