On September 22nd, 2023 I went to The Lamar Texans (5-0) vs. The Heights Bulldogs (2-3) the 1st district football game of their season. Lamar has been dominating this season with 19/22 of their starters being seniors. Lamar has crushed The Woodlands Highlanders and The Clear Fall Knights both highly-ranked football teams in Houston which has resulted in Lamar being ranked #5 in Houston and the top 20 in Texas. From watching this game I can see why they deserved their new ranking.

Early in the game #7 Jordan Reeves Lamar’s quarterback threw an 84-yard touchdown pass to running back and wide receiver #4 Justin Howard. Heights blocked the extra point for a safety the score was 6-2. Before the end of the 1st quarter, Lamar’s wide receiver #89 Trey Douglas scored a 12-yard reception touchdown. The end of 1st quarter score is 13-2. The 2nd quarter was no different The Texans were effectively moving the ball down the field Justin Howard rushed in for his 2nd touchdown. Lamar’s defense has made it difficult for the Bulldogs to move the ball and has prevented them from scoring the entire 1st two quarters. When Lamar received the ball back Vanderbilt commit Wide receiver #5 Tristen Brown had an amazing one-handed catch for a huge gain. Later it resulted in Jordan Reaves rushing in for a touchdown.

Starting the 2nd half Lamar receives the kickoff with a series of plays Justin Howard scored his 3rd touchdown. Heights received the kickoff their offense could not get through Lamar’s solid defense. It was 4th down Heights was about to punt the ball back to Lamar but decided to fake the punt and managed to get a 1st down. In the next couple of drives Heights’ running back Ezell Williams scored the 1st touchdown for the Bulldogs. However, after this, the game was at a standstill and the rivalry between both teams got a little heated. They were getting extremely rough with each other Lamar and Heights athletes kept receiving unsportsmanlike and holding penalties. Both teams ended the game with 13 penalties each which is a rare occurrence in football, especially at the high school level. The final score was 36-8 The Lamar Texans continued their win streak.

Next week The Lamar Texans will have a district game against The Westside Wolves (0-4) and The Heights Bulldogs will have a district game against The Bellaire Cardinals (0-4).
