Laredo United South Key Players and Storylines
A two-win season was Laredo United South’s fewest victories in a season since 2014. The Panthers will be looking to get back on track this year.
They’ll have to do it with a brand-new backfield. Their starting quarterback, all-district running back, and all-district fullback all graduated.
The new starting quarterback will have some help in the receiving corps. Jayden Muniz (530 receiving yards and two touchdowns) is a returning second team all-district selection while fellow receiver Jacob Gonzalez (173 receiving yards) is coming off a promising freshman season. Up front, 6’2″, 310-pound junior guard Erick Gonzalez will need to lead in the trenches after the Panthers graduated three players who received all-district honors or an honorable mention.
On the other side of the ball, Laredo United South is strongest at linebacker. Middle linebacker/defensive end Carlos Chavez (73 tackles, six TFLs) will be a reliable playmaker in the heart of the defense alongside outside linebacker Chris Molina.
The Panthers graduated a lot of key leaders off of last year’s team, but the disappointment of missing the playoffs last year will have fueled them throughout the offseason. Expect this Panthers squad to be a motivated one as they aim to climb up the District 30-6A standings.
