Legacy Outpaces St. John in High-Scoring Affair
On Friday, October 13th, 2023 I witnessed The St. John Mavericks (6-2) vs The Legacy School of Sports Science Titans (7-1) also known as LSSS. St. John has one of the best football teams not only for private schools but in the Houston area.
The Maverick’s major success is due to junior #3 Cole Allen. Cole is an incredible athlete he has been St. John’s playmaker since his freshman year. Cole can play wide receiver, running back, cornerback, safety, and even quarterback. Cole is a one-man army and is a delight to watch him play.
St. John received the 1st kickoff and within three minutes they drove the ball down the field and scored the 1st touchdown of the game. Legacy received the kickoff and in a couple of plays, they scored their 1st touchdown of the game. St. John not wasting any time answers back and Cole scores their 2nd touchdown with three minutes left in the 1st quarter. By the end of the 1st quarter, St. John was leading 14-7.
In the 2nd quarter, there was a small stalemate until sophomore quarterback #1 Keisean Henderson rushed it in for a touchdown. St. John received the ball back and Cole with breakneck speed ran the kickoff for a 70-yard touchdown. When Legacy’s offense hit the field again Keisean properly distributed the ball to his playmaker’s sophomore wide receiver #2 Michael Brown was running great routes the whole game and senior running back #5 Ahmare Merrida was extremely fast St. John’s defense could barely keep up with his speed. With two minutes left in the 1st half, Keisean rushed in for his 2nd touchdown. St. John turnover the ball with about 20 seconds left in the half Legacy needed two plays to score one more touchdown. In the last second Keisean threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver #4 Kameron Williams Legacy ended the 1st half finally in the lead with a score of 27-21.
Start of the 3rd quarter Legacy received the kickoff #0 Stefan Reynolds returned it to the end zone for a touchdown, but got called back because of a penalty. However, this didn’t stop Legacy from driving down the field, and in three minutes Ahmare extended their lead. St. John on offense was stopped and had to punt the ball back to Legacy. Within a series of plays, Keisean rushed in his 3rd touchdown of the game. Although Cole quickly scored a touchdown for St. John Legacy within one minute of receiving the ball Keisean threw a touchdown pass to #6 Deshaun Debose. End of the quarter the score is 49-28. In the 4th quarter, the game was no different Legacy scored three more touchdowns while St. John only scored one resulting in a final score of 69-35 with Legacy trampling St. John.
This was an amazing game from start to finish however I didn’t think it would be so one-sided towards the end. Legacy had a lot of standout athletes Keisean Henderson, Michael Brown, Ahmare Merrida, and Stefan Reynolds they all contributed to Legacy’s massive win. Cole Allen was also exceptional unfortunately St. John’s defense couldn’t stop Legacy’s offense and allowed 10 touchdowns. I’m looking forward to watching both teams progress throughout the rest of the season.
