Lone Star and Independence have a chance at area bragging rights this week, this is the first year District 13-5A is all Frisco ISD schools. Lone Star number eight in our 5A power rankings are looking to finish undefeated in district, and Independence is looking to ruin that for the Rangers and steal the district title.
Lone Star’s only loss this season came from an undefeated Denton Ryan that won handedly 51-34. Since that loss Lone Star has had a few close calls against Frisco and Wakeland, but came out on top both times. The Rangers offense has seemed to figure something out the past four games, averaging 47 points in those contests. Not to be outdone the defense has stepped as well holding teams to a tick under 15 points those same four games.
Independence comes in 8-1 with their one loss coming early in district play to Heritage 64-61 that saw the coyotes score 36 points in the fourth quarter. Until last week when Centennial put up 48 Independence hadn’t allowed 36 points in a game besides the Heritage game. If the Coyotes could’ve avoided their meltdown this matchup would’ve been to undefeated district opponents facing off. To make that loss hurt a little more that is Heritage’s lone win on the season.
Either way this game will decide the first all Frisco ISD District 13-5A. Will Lone Star finish district unbeaten or will Independence had them their first loss and take the crown. Independence is a bit of a cinderella story having only won three games in the last two seasons combined.
