We love our partners at USA Today, but you’re not going to believe who’s not in this years preseason top 25 high school football teams in the US. In this poll only two teams from the Lone Star State managed to make it in to the top 25….wait, what! Two teams from Texas….no way, right?!
We know Katy lost one game last year (Lake Travis), Just strange not seeing them here. No Westlake, Cy Fair, Desoto or Duncanville. Are we crazy or are there a number of Texas teams that you think can beat these teams on USA Todays preseason top 25 list. Including their number one ranked team whose name shall not be uttered, but it starts with an “I” and ends with a “G”.
Let us know what you think about USA Today’s ranking in the comments below, or on our Facebook or Twitter …who knows, maybe we’re just off our rocker…
As usual, the alma mater of Baker Mayfield has a stellar QB in junior Hudson Card, who, as a backup, threw for 604 yards and six TDs and ran 66 times for 459 yards and six TDs and also caught 69 passes for 1,137 yards and 13 TDs.
He won’t need to catch many receptions this year as he can throw to senior Garrett Wilson (1,764 yards, 26 TDs receiving), who recently committed to Ohio State.
The offensive line, led by senior Chad Wolf, is solid. The defense is led by DT Kaleb Wenson and keep an eye on sophomore DE Austin Spille.
TexasHSFootball Note:
We agree that both of these teams belong on this list, but firmly disagree with their ranking. In an imaginary world where Texas’ top high school football teams play the teams listed on USA Todays top 25 list outside of Texas….Texas wins. Of course we’re biased…silly question. However, we also know why Texas is the most heavily recruited states in the US. It starts with great coaches and ends with the hard work and dedication of Texas Players. Other states have great coaches too, and their players work hard….it’s just Texas—If you haven’t experienced it you just can’t grasp it.
Austin Spille – DE Lake Travis
I have had the Chance to meet and work with Austin a bit this offseason. He’s just entering his junior year….but keep your eye on him. This kid is big, strong with great change of direction, and closing speed. He reminds me of a young JJ Watt. The kid loves to compete, and will be a force to be reckoned with for any offense.
