Magnolia Key Players and Storylines

The good news? Magnolia has won nine games in two of the past three seasons. The bad news? They’ve won just one playoff game in that span.

Last year, they fell to Cypress Lakes in the bi-district round 21-12.

This season, they’ll look to translate that regular season success into postseason victories. The offense should be able to pick up right where it left off with quarterback Chase Lowery and running back Cash Ferrell (885 rushing yards, 241 receiving yards). Both were first team all-district honorees a year ago.

The majority of Lowery’s receiving corps was gutted with the graduation of three all-district receivers, but he does have 6’4″, 225-pound tight end Aiden Slansky, who is a Division I prospect, and returning slot receiver Trace Snellman.

Defensively, the Bulldogs are reloading in the trenches and the secondary after graduating four all-district linemen and four all-district defensive backs. Those voids mean linebacker Ty Miller (110 tackles, seven TFLs) will need to take on a big leadership role for this Bulldog defense. 6’3″ defensive end Aaron Flores can be a player that steps up on the defensive line after earning an all-district honorable mention a year ago.

The Bulldogs know who their leaders will be on both sides of the ball, but they’ll need plenty of players to fill the holes around them. Despite that turnover, expectations have not changed under Craig Martin, who has taken Magnolia to the playoffs in five out of his seven seasons.
