MANSFIELD — Mansfield High School is known for its ground-and-pound offense and Friday night at Vernon Newsome Stadium, the Tigers defeated Keller Central’s Chargers to the 42-3 blowout.
Running back Avery Chapman got the Tigers on the scoreboard with a 13-yar TD run with 2:47 in the 1st quarter. Chapman rushed for 99 yards on the night, averaging 5.5 yards a carry.

In the second quarter after a Central three-and-out, receiver Jackson Gleeson and quarterback Shawn Hartsfield decided to make their presence felt for the Tigers. Gleeson hauled in a 40-yard bomb unleashed by Hartsfield to give Mansfield 14-0 lead. Gleeson, a Baylor football pledge, is also a track star for Mansfield.
He scored his second touchdown in the third quarter on a 32-yard pass from Hartsfield. Gleeson finished the night with six receptions for 112 yards. Hartsfield was 12-21 for 233 yards and two touchdowns hauled in by Gleeson.
The Tigers offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage all game long led by tackle Willis Patrick. RB Theo Owens rumbled for two touchdowns against Keller Central with the first from six yards out in the second quarter gave the Tigers a 21-0 halftime lead.
The second score took the remaining life out of the Keller Central in the fourth quarter that extended the Tiger lead to 35-3. Mansfield bruised the Chargers defensive front for 492 yards of total offense, with a balanced attack (295 rushing, 233 passing).

Isaiah Ganaway was a lone bright spot for Keller Central. Ganaway had an interception in the 3rd quarter and returned it to the Tiger 25-yard line. After the Charger offense stalled, Devin Brock connected on a 23-yard field goal to give Keller Central its only points of the game.
Quarterback Jack Hecker was harassed by a swarming Tiger defense led by UCLA commit safety Cam’Ron Jones, cornerback Corbin Fredrick and defensive end Brian Otowri.
Keller Central was stymied on offense all night long and could only gain 94 yards of total offense with four first downs. Keller Central ends its season with a 6-5 record.
Mansfield (10-1) will face off against San Angelo Central (11-0) at 7pm Friday at Vernon Newsome Stadium.
