Melissa continued its midseason turnaround Friday night, defeating Frisco Reedy 41-35 in an important District 5-5A Division I matchup.
The Cardinals improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in district play with their third consecutive victory. Melissa entered the game with momentum after shutting out Frisco Centennial 70-0 the previous week.
Reedy also arrived on a three-game winning streak after beating McKinney North 31-28. However, Melissa found enough offense to hand the Lions their first district loss of the season.
The six-point finish kept both teams firmly in the district playoff race. Melissa and Reedy now share matching 4-3 overall records and 3-1 district marks as the regular season moves into its final stretch.
For Melissa, the victory added another strong result after an uneven start to the year. The Cardinals have now scored 111 points across their last two games while building momentum at the right time.
Melissa returns home next week to face Frisco Lebanon Trail, which is coming off a 49-14 loss to McKinney North.
Reedy faces another difficult test on the road against unbeaten Frisco Lone Star. The Rangers remained perfect with a 64-7 win over Centennial.
