Midland Lee Rebels

Head Coach: Clint Hartman (11th season; 81-39 record)

Last Season: 6-6; 4-1 in district (Lost to North Crowley in area round)

Midland Lee Key Players and Storylines

A field goal in the final minute is all that separated Midland Lee from its first district title since 2023 last season. Permian edged the Rebels 51-48 in a game that ended up deciding first and second place in District 2-6A.

The Rebels will believe they’ll have a shot at redemption this year with key playmakers back offensively. The backfield is very experienced with quarterback JP Reyes (2,842 passing yards and 23 touchdowns) heading into his third year as the starter and dynamic running back Hayes Hamm (1,288 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns) also a three-year letterman. Now, Reyes did lose five of his top six receivers, but the lone returner is prolific junior Ja’Braylen Anders (822 receiving yards and eight touchdowns), who is beginning to get Division I looks.

Up front, 6’4″, 280-pound tackle Brayden Zeno will need to lead the way on a unit that graduated four of its five all-district linemen.

Defensively, linebacker David Ihediwa (132 tackles, 10 TFLs) had an unbelievable varsity debut season and will create a strong tandem with returning second team all-district honoree Lorenzo Carrillo (51 tackles). Junior defensive back Marquez Martinez (50 tackles, two INTs) will be expected to step up in a secondary where the Rebels graduated three all-district players.

The stars are back on both sides of the ball for the Rebels. There are some holes to fill and the defense will want to improve on the 41.6 points per game it allowed a year ago, but all signs point to Lee being among the District 2-6A title conversation again this season.
