Monterey Shines: Dominates Wylie 34-21 in Lubbock Showdown
The Abilene Wylie Bulldogs made a second half run, but it was not enough to close the gap against Monterey.
The Monterey Plainsmen broke a 3-game losing streak to Wylie. They took control of the game early, scoring on two touchdown passes from Luke Arrington, and converting an interception into a field goal to take the 17-0 lead.
Wylie got on the board to cut the lead to 17-7 with a Bear Meng to Derrick Evans touchdown pass. However, Arrington connected on his third touchdown pass of the first half, connecting with Kash Lewis for the second time. Monterey took a 24-7 lead into the half.
In the second half, Wylie would outscore the Plainsmen 14-10, but it would not be enough to close the 17 point gap.
The Wylie Bulldogs fall to 0-2. Coming off an 10-4 season last year, the Pirates had high hopes for this season. They’ll look to get their first win next week against South Garland. The South Garland Titans are 2-0, coming off a 14-10 win over Irving,
Monterey, who remain unbeaten at 2-0, will host the Frenship Tigers on Thursday. The Tigers are coming off of an exciting 35-34 overtime win over Lubbock-Cooper.
