Thursday night could see the fourth spot in District 19-6A wrapped up when Morton Ranch takes on Seven Lakes. Morton Ranch is currently tied with Strake Jesuit at 3-3 in district, but Morton Ranch has the head-to-head win over the Crusaders.
This has been a roller coaster season for head coach Dave Meadows and his Mavericks team. The Mavericks won their season opener over Nimitz 30-0 then proceeded to lose the next two non-district games. Once district started it seemed as if the Mavs had figured it out and got on a roll, winning their first three district games. That three game winning streak quickly turned into a three game losing streak starting with a 68-9 beatdown by the Katy Tigers, a loss the Mavericks are still trying to bounce back from.
Even with their current three game skid they are still in position to control their own destiny. If the Mavericks win against the Seven Lakes Spartans they are in, if they push their losing streak to four games they will have to wait for the Strake Jesuit vs. Katy Taylor results. Luckily for the Mavericks the Spartans aren’t the toughest opponent, but the Spartans would like nothing more than to play spoiler and ruin the Mavericks playoff dreams.
