Galena Park North Shore continued its playoff dominance with a 42-28 victory over Katy in the Class 6A Division I regional semifinals at NRG Stadium. The Mustangs, aiming for a fourth consecutive state championship appearance, showcased their resilience and explosive playmaking ability throughout the game.
North Shore set the tone early, with quarterback Kaleb Bailey throwing four first-half touchdown passes, including a 51-yard strike to Quanell X Farrakahn Jr. The Mustangs’ defense also made key plays, with Devin Sanchez contributing an interception to halt Katy’s comeback momentum. By halftime, North Shore held a commanding 28-14 lead.
Despite a strong third-quarter push by Katy, highlighted by a 51-yard run by Tremayne Hill and a subsequent score to cut the deficit to 28-21, North Shore’s defense held firm in the fourth. Bailey added a 70-yard touchdown pass to Chris Thomas, and D’Andre Hardeman Jr. sealed the win with a 25-yard rushing touchdown.
A Familiar Foe Awaits
With the win, North Shore advances to the regional final for the fourth consecutive year, where they will face district rival Humble Atascocita. North Shore previously defeated Atascocita 27-23 during the regular season. This playoff rematch will determine which powerhouse moves one step closer to the state championship.
