Dawson Key Players and Storylines

Pearland Dawson saw the three most important games of last season slip away. One possession losses to Pearland and Manvel denied the Eagles a district title, while a 21-16 defeat to Ridge Point sent them home in the first round of playoffs.

That heartbreak has motivated this group over the offseason. The good news is a lot of underclassmen played key roles in those games, so there’s plenty of experience among Dawson’s returning 23 lettermen.

The Eagles do have to replace their starting quarterback. Utility man Calvin Wesley (385 receiving yards) could be an option. He has experience both behind center and at receiver. Corey Brown (483 receiving yards, 133 rushing yards) is just as versatile. He is a threat with the ball in his hands offensively as well as a standout defensive back.

Up front, Carter Ceasar is a veteran presence after starting every game the past two seasons.

Defensively, linebacker Caden Exum (100 tackles, eight TFLs) will lead the way along with linebacker/safety Nathanael Talom (71 tackles, nine TFLs). Defensive end Aiden Witt (30 tackles, five TFLs) stepped into a starting role late last year and impressed with his “quick hands and good technique.”

Now, despite the returning talent, head coach Mike Allison said some spots are still up for grabs and he’s excited to see “who is able to rise to the top.”

Still, the lessons learned from last year should serve the Eagles well in 2026. Allison believes this group should continue to grow together as they position themselves to be a legitimate district title threat.
