Region I
Lubbock Cooper – III
Boswell – I
Advantage: Lubbock Cooper, three votes to one
Reasoning: Lubbock Cooper’s defense is strong enough to carry them over Boswell.
Abilene Cooper – 0
Aledo – IIII
Advantage: Aledo, four votes to none
Reasoning: Playing Aledo is like attempting to fight quicksand. The more emotional and amped you are to play them, the quicker they suck you into their depths.
Region II
South Oak Cliff – I
Mesquite Poteet – III
Advantage: Mesquite Poteet
Reasoning: We like the Pirates, especially after their victory over Frisco Lone Star. When you score that many points, Lone Star having an injured quarterback becomes a moot point.
Lancaster – II
Wylie East – II
Advantage: Push
Reasoning: On one hand, Lancaster is an incredible team. On the other hand, Eno Benjamin. It’s going to be a tightly contested game.
Region III
A&M Consolidated – II
FB Marshall – II
Advantage: Push
Reasoning: We feel like we haven’t seen the last of A&M Consolidated, but Fort Bend Marshall is going to be a challenge they might not be able to surmount.
College Station – II
Port Neches-Groves – II
Advantage: Push
Reasoning: College Station is undefeated, but PNG has some serious wins on their resume. This one will come down to the very end.
Region IIII
Victoria East – II
Edcouch-Elsa – II
Advantage: Push
Reasoning: While it’s not miraculous that both of these teams have made it into the third round, we would not have exactly been shocked if they had lost before now. They’re evenly matched, and it should be a good game.
Boerne Champion – II
CC Calallen – II
Advantage: Push
Reasoning: The first real playoffs test for Calallen comes in the form of Boerne Champion. We’ll see how good each team is very shortly.
