Princeton Key Players and Storylines
Princeton broke through with its first winning season in a decade last fall, but the Panthers were far from satisfied. A five-point loss to Plano ended up keeping them out of the playoffs for the eighth-straight year.
They did have some change over the offseason with Ervin Chandler moving into the assistant athletic director role for Princeton ISD. Offensive coordinator Daniel Johnson takes over in his place.
He and his Panthers will have “something to prove.” However, they’re going to need to grow up fast. Just six starters return from last year.
Offensively, it’s largely a clean slate outside of 6’2” senior receiver Jayden Rogers (321 receiving yards and two touchdowns). Sophomore quarterback Ayden Hughes will get the keys to the offense with his “tremendous arm”, while Daniel Luster (141 receiving yards and one touchdown) will take on a much bigger role at receiver.
The defense has some more experience to lean on with linebacker Braedon Chandler (54 tackles), Princeton’s leading returning tackler, and senior defensive lineman Kaidon Williams (51 tackles), who is heading into his third year as a starter. Behind them, the Panthers will lean on 6’0”, 160-pound senior cornerback Bishop Carroll (16 tackles, one INT) to hang with some of the top receivers in the district.
The Panther coaching staff has loved the work ethic and resilience they have seen from their players. That no-quit attitude will be big as Princeton looks to overcome its inexperience and push for a playoff berth this fall.
