Prosper ISD Will Potentially Build The Most Expensive TXHSFB Stadium All-Time
Just two weeks after we covered the Top 5 Most Expensive Stadiums in Texas HS Football, a new entrant could possibly supplant the top spot as the priciest in the Lone Star State.
Prosper ISD has announced a proposal for a $94 million stadium. To put it in perspective, the price tag is $14 million higher than Cy-Fair FCU Stadium at Berry Center, which cost $80 million.
The proposed 8,000-seat stadium is part of a Prosper ISD $2.8 billion bond package, which includes a whopping $102.4 million proposition to build the new facility. Remaining funds will go towards renovating existing tracks and field.
Inexplicably, this isn’t the first multi-million dollar stadium in Prosper ISD—a town located roughly 40 miles north of Dallas. In 2019, the school district opened Children’s Health Stadium to the tune of $48 million. The 12,000-seat stadium was the sixth most expensive stadium locally.
Since 2016, both Collin and Denton districts have experienced unprecedented growth in the area, which has added 21,000 new homes inside the school zone since 2016.
The district claims it’s enrolling nearly 3,000 new students each year. In comparison, in 2002, the district had only a few hundred students and three campuses. Now, there are 28,000 students spread across 25 buildings.
The city also claims a zero tax rate increase, meaning residents won’t see an increase due to the bond.
The school district serves Prosper, as well as fast-growing McKinney, Celina, Frisco, and Aubrey. The bond package will be voted on by Prosper ISD during the Nov. 7 election.
