Randle opened the 2026 season with the kind of win that should immediately get everyone’s attention.
The Lions knocked off South Oak Cliff 20-14 at Prairie View A&M, extending their winning streak to 17 games and proving that last year’s championship run was not some one-season flash. Randle looked physical, confident, and comfortable in a game against one of the state’s most respected programs.
As expected, Landen Williams-Callis was right in the middle of everything.
The Texas commit rushed for 235 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries, repeatedly giving Randle manageable situations and keeping the offense moving. When the Lions needed tough yards, Williams-Callis usually found them. That is a pretty good foundation for an offense that should only become more dangerous as the season goes along.
Randle’s defense deserves plenty of credit, too. The Lions held South Oak Cliff to only 44 total yards in the first half and rarely allowed the Golden Bears to find any rhythm. They were disciplined, aggressive, and consistently around the football.
Still, South Oak Cliff showed exactly why nobody should overreact to an opening-week loss.
The Golden Bears kept fighting, finally broke through offensively, and made things very interesting late. A 60-yard touchdown pass in the final minute cut the deficit to six and gave South Oak Cliff one last opportunity to steal the game. That late push was a reminder that this team has plenty of talent and absolutely enough time to put together another big season.
Randle ultimately finished the job when Walen Rebector came through with a key sack on South Oak Cliff’s final possession.
For Randle, this was an impressive way to start. The Lions are 1-0, their winning streak is alive, and they already look capable of making another deep postseason run.
For South Oak Cliff, there is no reason for panic. The Golden Bears played a championship-caliber opponent, stayed within one possession, and showed some late offensive life. With their talent, coaching, and track record, they should remain a serious factor once the postseason picture starts taking shape.
Week 1 gave Randle a statement win. It also gave South Oak Cliff plenty to build on.
