Here are some thoughts from last weekend’s Under Armour Camp in Houston

Quarterback

2019 prospect Grant Gunnell (St. Pius X) looked impressive and has the size and arm strength to be a prototypical passer at the next level. Roschon Johnson (Port Neches-Groves) looked great and is currently the only QB in the 2019 class that has an offer from the Texas Longhorns. John Holcombe (Summer Creek) and Lance Legendre (Easton, La.) also looked impressive.

Running Back

I thought the RB position (which is considered a weak class this year) had some positives with Stanley Hackett (Pasadena Rayburn) looking impressive showing his speed and agility. Craig Williams (Crosby), and Trenton Charles (Scotlandville, La.) and Keaontay Ingram (Carthage) looked impressive.

Wide Receivers

One of the more impressive groups in the 2018 Class that I saw was the wide reciever class led by 2018 speedster Jaylen Waddle (Bellaire Episcopal) Also showing out in this camp were Al’vonte Woodard (Houston Lamar), Brennan Eagles (Alief Taylor), Tommy Bush (Schertz Clemens) and Taye Barber (Cy Springs)

Offensive Line

2018 will be a top year for highly touted offensive linemen. In the Houston Camp, Kenyon Green (Humble Atascocita), who is an LSU Commit, stole the show for me showing outstanding quickness and agility as a big man. Also impressive were Kardell Thomas, (Southern University, La.) and 2019 Brannon Brown (O’Connor).

Defensive Line

By far the most impressive DL specimen at Sunday’s camp was big athletic mover, Keondre Coburn (Spring Westfield). Coburn will be defending his home turf with hopes of becoming the state’s next top defensive line prospect in the vein of Ed Oliver. Coburn is said to have the Texas Longhorns high on his list of possible landing spots. 5 star DT prospect, Ishmel Sophsher (Amite, La.) also caught my eye and stood out in Sunday’s camp. Sopsher is a force in the trenches. He has a great frame, moves well and plays with power.

Linebackers

This years 2018 class of LB’s is pretty slim, nonetheless a couple that caught my eye on Sunday were Chad Bailey (FB Ridge Point), Michael Matus (Katy) and Damone Clark (Southern Lab, La.), whose recruitment has taken off over the last couple of weeks.

Defensive Backs

This is my position, so pardon me if I include a little more guys then the other positions. I really enjoyed watching Leon O’Neal (Cy Springs), Jalen Green (Houston Heights), Anthony Cook (Houston Lamar), and D’Shawn Jamison (Houston Lamar). They’re guys with the potential to be big-time players at the next level and they all have prototypical size, speed and play-making ability.
