Looking at the brackets, it seems like there are several Regions that are more difficult than others. Region 1 of 6A’s Division 2 comes to mind, with teams like Southlake Carroll, DeSoto, Denton Guyer, Abilene, and Waco Midway littering the top-left half of the 6A D2 bracket. 5A D1’s Region 3 comes to mind as well, where Cedar Park and Manvel will have a tough time getting to each other in the third round.
I’m of the opinion that we’ll see another one of these superb regions emerge, and it’s coming directly out of 4A’s Region 1.
Look at the teams involved: Sanger, who’s better than their 6-4 record indicates. Brownwood, who’s never an easy out, and has two overtime losses and a one-point loss, giving it four losses as well. Levelland and Nick Gerber are there as well. Andrews, whose only loss is to Lubbock Coronado, a 5A team that’s 9-1 and champions of their district is there. Abilene Wylie is always a tough out, and nearly everyone’s pick to win the region, Argyle, caps it off.
This is not an easy region by far. There are plenty of underrated teams and just flat out good teams here. They have some duds, like Snyder, who snuck in with a 1-7 record, and Stephenville, who snuck in with a 3-7 record, but make no mistake, there are teams in this region that are built to last. It’s not just Argyle and the little sisters of the poor, there are teams that can seriously challenge the Eagles here.
It’s never easy to win 6 games in a row, especially against the top competition in the state. Argyle is going to have the best chance by far, but don’t sell their competition short. They’ll have to earn it, every step of the way.
