Regional Semifinal 2A Team of the Week: Ganado Indians
2A Team of the Week: Ganado Indians
From 2020-2022, Refugio had a distinct upper hand on Ganado in the playoffs. The Bobcats beat the Indians all three years by a combined score of 161-16.
The past two seasons, Ganado has gone to work on reversing that trend.
Last year, the Indians destroyed the Bobcats 41-12.
This time around though, Refugio came in hot. The Bobcats had been averaging over 60 points a game. But on Friday, Ganado held them to just six as it secured a 14-6 victory. With the win, the Indians are off to the regional final for the second-straight year.
Offensively for the Indians, sophomore running back Logan Bures was the workhorse. He had 22 carries for 182 yards and a touchdown. Indian quarterback Bryce Ullman also had a touchdown pass to Austen Pena to give Ganado some breathing room heading to the fourth quarter.
Defensively, Bures also made his presence felt. He had eight total tackles and a forced fumble. Ullman and senior Vince Sablatura were right behind him with six tackles apiece.
Now, Ganado will turn its attention to trying to get back to the state semifinals. The Indians will take on Marlin for the regional championship on Thursday in San Marcos.
