According to Justin Wells of Inside Texas, Sam Ehlinger will be sidelined with a wrist injury against district rival Lake Travis.
Ehlinger has battled injuries all year, first tearing the meniscus in both of his knees in August, then after a return to the field, suffered an injured thumb in Westlake’s first meeting with Lake Travis. We’ve likely seen the last of Sam Ehlinger as a Westlake Chaparral, as the senior is headed to the Texas Longhorns and newly minted coach Tom Herman and the Chaps are taking on powerhouse Lake Travis tomorrow.
It’s a bitter end for Ehlinger, the poster boy of battling through injuries this season. Most would struggle at being a dual-threat quarterback after coming off two knee surgeries, but coming back after an injured thumb on your throwing hand is another beast entirely. Ehlinger fought through both, preforming masterfully considering the circumstances.
Ehlinger will end his career as one of the most successful quarterbacks to ever come through Austin Westlake, following in the footsteps of other former Chap greats such as Nick Foles and Drew Brees. The Chaps weren’t favored in this weekend’s matchup with Lake Travis, and now it would seem that their chances of winning will decrease dramatically.
