Richardson Eagles

Head Coach: Kendrick Holloway (4th season; 19-15 record)

Last Season: 9-3; 6-1 in district (Lost to Coppell in area round)

Returning Lettermen: 22 (6 returning starters on offense; 6 on defense)

Richardson Key Players and Storylines

Last year was one for the record books for Richardson. The Eagles clinched their first district title in 33 years. Not only that, they also won a playoff game in back-to-back years for the first time since that 1992 season.

It’s evident Kendrick Holloway and staff have the Eagles moving in the right direction, and they have a strong core back from last year’s team with six starters back on each side of the ball. That includes Vanderbilt commit 6’6”, 290-pound tackle Jasper Nogkwere, who will anchor the trenches.

At the skill positions, a new group of Eagles will be stepping up. Running back Rico Harris (314 rushing yards and four touchdowns) has big play ability and will keep defenses on their toes alongside dynamic senior Nash Harder, who is stepping into the starting quarterback role and will give the Eagles a versatile presence behind center. Richardson’s staff is also high on the potential of junior receiver Luke Choat.

Defensively, the Eagles expect to set the tone in the front seven with senior linebacker Mike Swanks (62 tackles, five TFLs) leading the charge. He can create a dominant duo with returning first team all-district linebacker Jack Lee. Up front, edge rusher Jason Catchings (40 tackles, eight TFLs) has the athleticism to cause problems off the edge, while 6’4”, 295-pound defensive tackle Noah Ross is a “dominant interior presence.”

Richardson may have lost some of their leaders from a year ago, but this is a program on the rise. With last year’s taste of success, expect this group to stay hungry as the Eagles look to win a playoff game in three consecutive seasons for the first time ever.
