Richardson Pearce Mustangs

Head Coach: Jarrett Lambert (5th season; 23-19 record)

Last Season: 4-6; 3-4 in district

Returning Lettermen: 30 (5 returning starters on offense; 4 on defense)

Pearce Key Players and Storylines

Pearce earned its first playoff berth in four years in 2024, but the Mustangs couldn’t build off that a year ago, finishing 4-6.

This season, head coach Jarrett Lambert expects his guys to be able to compete for the top four in District 7-6A. An offense with plenty of potential to build off its 24 points per game it averaged a year ago will certainly help that cause.

Junior quarterback Kyler Lambert (484 passing yards and five touchdowns) is ready to get the keys to the offense after starting two games as a sophomore last year. He can move when needed, averaging over 13.5 yards per carry in 2025. When he drops back, 5’8″ senior Will Grimsley (299 receiving yards and two touchdowns) will be his threat over the middle, while 6’0″ sophomore Wyatt Walters (129 receiving yards and two touchdowns) can win one-on-one matchups in the perimeter. Starting running back Cole Morgan (207 rushing yards, 191 receiving yards) will also be a receiving threat out of the backfield.

Up front, tackle Koffi Kuakumensah will provide vital leadership after starting all ten games a year ago.

Defensively, Pearce has just four returning starters and has to replace eight of its nine leading tacklers from 2025. Defensive end Nathan Ginn (32 tackles, seven TFLs) will be the biggest threat on that side of the ball. Lambert also expects linebacker Wyatt Haspel (19 tackles) and safety Everett Linn (15 tackles and two INTs) to grow into bigger roles this year after playing in all ten games as juniors last season.

Pearce was alive in the playoff race a year ago all the way down to the final week of the season when it lost a win-or-go home game to Berkner 49-21. The Mustangs will believe that experience will have made them stronger as they look to return to the playoffs this fall.
