Rockwall Key Players and Storylines
Last season stung for Rockwall. The Yellowjackets missed the playoffs for the first time since 2012 after two district losses by six points or less.
It was a weird feeling for a group that had won at least one playoff game in Trey Brooks’ first five years in charge. They’ll head into 2026 looking to get back to that standard, but they’ll have to overcome some inexperience with just eight returning starters.
Gone is a 2,600-yard passer at quarterback, but receiver Ryan Wiley (372 receiving yards and eight touchdowns) is both a great leader and a great playmaker for the offense. Running back Kaydon Castro (695 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns) will also help settle in the new starter. Not only will this be his third year on varsity, but he’s also a reliable safety blanket with his catching ability out of the backfield. Up front, 6’4”, 260-pound right tackle Michael Carrena will lead both the run blocking and pass protection efforts in the trenches.
Defensively, the Yellowjackets can lean on experienced linebacker Christian Lawyer (58 tackles and 13 TFLs) and tough 6’3”, 245-pound defensive end Wade Day (40 tackles and five TFLs), who can also play nose guard. Cornerback Josh Amoo will go toe-to-toe with opposing teams’ top receivers. He doesn’t shy away from press coverage.

Brooks said he has been impressed with his team’s competitiveness as they look to overcome last season’s disappointment. He believes this year’s group will be stronger as they look to get back to winning in November.
