Round Rock Key Players and Storylines

Round Rock lost its three district games last year by a grand total of nine points. Those slip ups set them up with a tough first round matchup against Lake Travis, which resulted in the Dragons’ fifth-straight first-round exit.

An offense that averaged 35.3 points per game was a big reason for Round Rock’s success last year, and it should be potent again this year. The Dragons have an outstanding foundation in the trenches with 6’6″, 260-pound TCU commit Colton Steed and 6’5″, 312-pound Yale commit Mark Moreno at tackle and 6’4″, 290-pound junior Caleb Castaneda on the interior.

They should give plenty of time for senior quarterback Dov Stickler (1,850 passing yards and 15 touchdowns) to operate. There’s no question who his go-to target will be: 6’3″, 210-pound TCU commit tight end Dylan Jaegar (1,003 receiving yards and nine touchdowns), who is a mismatch waiting to happen.

Defensively, the Dragons will lean on the linebacking tandem of Jason Nold (56 tackles, 13.5 TFLs) and Ellis King (41 tackles, 7.5 TFLs). They’ll also be able to cause problems up front with 6’4″, 225-pound defensive end Ford Lucas tearing off the edge and 6’0″, 265-pound defensive tackle Payton Johnson (22 tackles, eight TFLs) wreaking havoc in the middle.

The addition of state powerhouses Westlake and Lake Travis are a new wrinkle to 25-6A. Still, with the amount of next-level talent on this Round Rock roster, the Dragons will expect to be a playoff squad again this fall.
