Stony Point Key Players and Storylines
After 22 seasons, it’s a new era at Stony Point. Craig Chessher, who won 124 games as the Tigers’ head coach, retired over the offseason. Hutto offensive coordinator Dustin Pleasant takes over as just the third head coach in Stony Point’s 27 seasons as a varsity program.
He’ll have a pretty fresh slate after 10 of Stony Point’s 11 all-district players from last year graduated. The Tigers don’t return a quarterback who attempted a varsity pass last year, but they do have some talent at the skill positions to help ease that transition. Running back Marcus Milligan (553 rushing yards and seven touchdowns) and junior Aiden Loyden (193 rushing yards and two touchdowns) will be a one-two punch at running back this year. Senior Olamide Aroworade (581 receiving yards and five touchdowns) will be the Tigers’ go-to playmaker at receiver, while Loyden and Milligan will also be big pass-catching threats out of the backfield.
Defensively, the Tigers lost a lot to graduation, including two first team all-district selections in the secondary. In the front seven, linebacker William Seiss and defensive end Dashun Jones will need to play big roles as one of the few players with notable experience.
Stony Point has not made the playoffs since 2019. This year will be all about setting the foundation under Pleasant as he and his staff look to develop the next generation of Tigers into Friday night playmakers.
